Redmond Regional
Medical Center (RRMC) is a full service, 201-bed facility that serves as
a referral center for all of northwest Georgia and parts of Alabama.
The facility’s Engineering Services Department sought to
automate its monthly inspections of over 200 fire extinguishers. Each
extinguisher must be inspected monthly to comply with Joint Commission
on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and National Fire
Protection Association (NFPA) codes.
Since
the Engineering Department was already using Microsoft Access for it’s
work-order system and each extinguisher was labeled with a unique
barcode, Mr. Ray developed a Pendragon Forms application and an external
database application for inspection data collection, inventory, and
reporting.
The
forms were deployed on a Symbol SPT 1800 device. During each inspection, the handheld is used
to quickly retrieve inspection lists, verify correct and complete
inspections, and update lists of units remaining to be completed. After
synchronization, reports are generated for code compliance and to
initiate any work-orders for deficient equipment.
