IMPORTANT NETWORK REQUIREMENTS

HTML5 applications are keyed to a domain name or IP address. This means that when you install your application into your device's web browser, you will only be able to synchronize back to the original IP address or domain.

To make this work, you either need a domain name (e.g., myserver.com) or else you need your IP address to be fixed. We recommend the domain name, if possible, as this allows you to change your IP address if your network configuration changes.

STAND-ALONE LAPTOP/PC NETWORK

In some cases, you may want all your devices to synchronize exclusively with a single laptop. In such cases, we recommend installing a pocket WiFi router, such as the D-Link DWL-G730AP. You can then configure your devices to synchronize specifically with your own WiFi hotspot, and you can give your laptop a fixed IP address on that network.

HOME OR PERSONAL NETWORKS

If you do not have a fixed IP address, we recommend using a public DNS service such as DynDNS. To configure this service, you will also need to configure port forwarding on your router. You can find instructions for doing this at the DynDNS web site (including a very useful guide to setting up port forwarding on your wireless router).

CORPORATE NETWORKS

On a corporate network, you will not generally have the ability to reconfigure your network. To make Pendragon Forms work, you should ask your IT/network administrator for the ability to access your server from allowed synchronization locations at a fixed IP address or domain name.  By default, our server is an Apache web server running on port 8080.
