FAQ
Will my Pendragon Forms 5.1 applications run in Pendragon Forms VI?
Most Forms 5.1 applications will run with little or no modification.
However, HTML5 does not support all of the features that were available
in Forms 5.1.
Is Pendragon Forms 5.1 still available?
Yes. Pendragon Forms 5.1 will continue to be supported for users of
Palm OS/Garnet and Windows Mobile Classic & Professional. (Pendragon
Forms VI does not currently support Palm OS or Windows Mobile devices.)
What are the limitations of Pendragon Forms VI?
Pendragon Forms VI does not currently support Image fields, Slider
fields, or Sketch fields. Pendragon Forms VI does not support camera
image capture because mobile HTML5 browsers do not (yet) support this
feature. Also, Pendragon Forms VI has a 5 megabyte database limit in
most browsers, so you can store 2000-10000 records, but not many tens of
thousands of records. Finally, available HTML5 devices do not support
barcoding.
Does Pendragon Forms VI support iPhone, iPod, and iPad?
Yes.
Does Pendragon Forms VI support Google Android?
Yes. We recommend Android 2.2. Unfortunately, signature
capture is not supported in the current version because the Android
browser does not support the canvas.toDataURL function. However,
we may support signature capture in a future version using a different
method.
Can I run Pendragon Forms applications (with scripting) on my desktop?
Yes. The Safari web browser from Apple supports HTML 5. Safari runs on
Windows and Mac. On Linux, you can use the Konqueror browser.
Does Pendragon Forms VI support Blackberry?
Not yet. We are working to make our software compatible, but we're
not 100% sure it will be possible to support Blackberry.
Do I need a separate server?
Pendragon Forms VI includes server software that you can install on your
PC or laptop. Once installed, you can synchronize your wireless devices
directly to your PC or laptop! This means you can design and manage
data on the same PC you use as a server. To use your PC/laptop as a
server, you will need to configure your firewall to allow devices to
reach your PC/laptop.
Can I host synchronization on a separate server?
Yes! You can install the synchronization and staging server on a
separate PC (e.g., on a server in your firewall’s DMZ), or at an ISP.
Your Windows PC will synchronize bidirectionally from inside your
firewall to the hosted server. Remote users can synchronize with the
hosted server, even if your Windows PC is turned off.
Can I synchronize my mobile devices over USB?
No. Generally, iOS (iPad/iPod/iPhone) and Google Android devices are
unable to synchronize over a USB connection. You will need a TCP/IP
network connection from your mobile device to your server. Typically,
you will use a WiFi, 3G or 4G connection.
Why does Pendragon Forms VI use two-level synchronization?
Pendragon Forms VI relies on a Staging Server between the
Administrative/Office PC and mobile devices. The Staging Server serves
up the HTML5 application and provides storage in a MySQL database for
records. Mobile devices and the Administrative PC synchronize with the
Staging Server.
Having two-level synchronization allows mobile device synchronization to
be securely hosted outside the main corporate firewall. It also enabled
companies without their own servers to host synchronization at an ISP.
